AUSTIN — The Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) is pleased to announce the hire of Caasi Lamb as the pension trust fund’s newest deputy director, with a scheduled start date of Monday, July 8, 2024. Lamb replaces Andrew Roth who this month left TRS after five years to lead the Colorado Public Employees Retirement Association as CEO.

AUSTIN – The Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) has been honored for a 13th time with a Top Workplace Award for the Austin region as appearing in the Austin American-Statesman. This year, the pension fund continues its growth into an enterprise level operation as it serves more than two million public education members and retirees.
Ruth Eloise Carruthers – affectionately known by family and friends as “Weezie” – recently celebrated her 106th birthday reminiscing on three decades spent as a Texas educator. Like many in the profession, one of Weezie’s greatest joys in life has been watching students grow into successful adults. Now, as a longtime retiree, she has been collecting a TRS pension payment every month for more than 40 years. Meet Weezie in our latest “TRS Talks” video.
In his role as a University of Texas Empowerment Program Ambassador, Michael Shaw touches lives each day by extending smiles, high-fives and words of encouragement as he goes about his work in the parking services department. In fact, many consider him a campus celebrity. As a family man and former police officer, Shaw has a lifelong passion for serving others. He finds joy and meaning in his work each day, but also looks to the future and his retirement security as a TRS member. Learn more about Shaw in our video series “TRS Talks.”
Before taking home the 2023 Grammy Educator of The Year Award, Pamela Dawson spent many years teaching music in public schools. In this TRS Talks feature, we travel to DeSoto High School to capture a behind-the-scenes look at Ms. Dawson’s heart for kids. As this Texas teacher continues to touch young lives, she also looks forward to her next chapter as a TRS retiree.
