AUSTIN—Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) is moving forward with a plan to hire the agency’s first-ever ombudsman (“ombuds”). While TRS’ Board of Trustees proactively discussed the scope of the role at its June 3 meeting, the creation of an ombudsrole comes in response to actions of the 87 th session of the Texas Legislature and the resulting Sunset Law, HB 1585.

AUSTIN - TRS has no further lease obligations as a result of the recent sale of the new Indeed Tower located in downtown Austin. Kilroy Realty Corporation of California purchased the property from an investment group that included Principal Real Estate Investors. The sale closed June 23.

AUSTIN – Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed into law legislation enabling a one-time supplemental payment to eligible Teacher Retirement System members who retired on or before Dec. 31, 2020. Senate Bill 7 provides a payment to eligible retirees and beneficiaries in either the same amount of their monthly annuity or $2,400, whichever is less.
